25 January 2012

The 2012 RYA Conference for Short Range Certificate (SRC) Assessors is to be sponsored for the first time by Standard Horizon and will take place at The Rose Bowl in Southampton on Monday, 16th April.

Organised by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) for its 1800 SRC radio operator Assessors, the RYA Standard Horizon SRC Assessors’ Conference 2012 will provide delegates with up to date information on any changes to the SRC courses or their emphasis. It will also give the Assessors an opportunity to discuss various topics within the scheme and to provide feedback to the RYA based on their experiences over the 17,500 SRC courses held each year at the RYA’s 850 training centres in 32 countries across the world.

With the presence of Standard Horizon at the Conference, delegates will have the chance to discuss technical matters with the Standard Horizon team, as well as being able to examine and test the Standard Horizon radio and communication equipment on display on the day.

The GX2100E, HX851E and GX1600E radios have specifically been chosen as products to focus upon during the Conference.  These represent the very latest in DSC VHF technology and have been developed to be particularly easy for boat owners to use, with intuitive menus for emergency situations.  The GX2100E is a fixed DSC radio with the bonus of built-in AIS reception and data display either on the radio itself or on a separate RAM mic or Standard Horizon chart plotter.  The HX851E is the revolutionary handheld DSC radio, the first such set to be offered to the boating market anywhere in the world, whereas the GX1600E is a compact fixed set, designed for installation in particularly tight locations, and is one of the slimmest sets on the market today.

The RYA Standard Horizon SRC Assessors’ Conference 2012 will have three main themes, these being: the discussion of current and future developments in radio products; future delivery of the SRC Scheme with emphasis on ensuring that it remains current and compliant with broadcast requirements; and general training and other updates from the RYA.

Speaking about his company’s sponsorship of the RYA SRC Assessors’ Conference, Standard Horizon’s General Manager, Dean Croome, said: “We are naturally delighted to be working with the RYA to support this forthcoming Conference.  Our presence there on the day will also enable us to hear the views of the Assessors and their comments on radios currently used by their students, providing us with valuable feedback for future development, which all contributes to the future safety and enjoyment of boaters everywhere.”

The RYA is Britain’s national governing body for recreational and competitive boating, representing the interests of dinghy and yacht racing, cruising under power and sail, RIBs and sports boats, powerboat racing, windsurfing, inland waterways cruising and personal watercraft. As well as the many levels of full training courses organised by the approved RYA training establishments, there are also specialised short courses including SRC, radar, diesel engine maintenance and first aid. In 2011, 180,000 people completed RYA courses.
