Leading electronics manufacturer, Standard Horizon, is proud to announce the arrival of the new GX1200E Eclipse DSC+.

Based on the same advanced die-cast aluminium chassis as the previous, hugely popular GX1100E, the new set has been updated with user-programmable soft keys on the fascia for easy menu operation. This includes channel selection buttons, high and low power selection and quick access to Channel 16.

The microphone also features Clear Voice Noise Reduction Technology, which cleverly filters out any unwanted background wind or engine noise to help with clearer transmissions.

The GX1200E remains one of the smallest fixed DSC VHF Class D sets on the market, measuring just 2.4”H x 6.1”W x 6.7”D, (61mmH x 155mmW x 170mmD) yet despite its ultra-compact dimensions there has been no compromise on features.

The front panel is fully waterproof to the stringent IPX7 standard (one meter submersion for 30 minutes) and the set can be flush mounted, making it ideal for use on all types of craft, especially when space is at a premium.

For boats heading into the waterways of Europe, the mandatory ATIS (Automatic Transmitter Information Service) can be fully programmed and switched on and off via the front panel. Another useful safety feature is a time-out facility that limits transmission time to 5 minutes, thus preventing the accidental jamming of the main calling channels.

As a full ITU-R M493-13 class D marine DSC, the GX1200E makes efficient use of the dedicated Channel 70, with all Digital Selective Calling functions accessed via the new soft keys working an intuitive menu.  When the set is connected to a GPS receiver via an NMEA cable, your current position is clearly shown on the backlit LCD screen, the brightness and contrast of which is fully adjustable. The set can then be programmed to poll for the positions of up to 48 other DSC-equipped vessels and can automatically (or manually) volunteer your own boat’s position when asked. Your position is also automatically transmitted when the distress button is used, although can also be entered manually if a GPS is not connected.  Standard Horizon has taken this function one step further by allowing the positions of the polled vessels to be displayed on any Standard Horizon plotter connected to the GX1200E.

Current draw from a 12-volt supply is just 0.3A in standby mode, rising to 1.0A when receiving and 5.5A when transmitting at 25W. All the usual VHF functions such as low and high power settings, dual watch and one-button Channel 16 selection are easily accessed via the soft keys on the fascia. Some functions can also be fully customised, such as your most commonly used VHF channels.

The set is supplied with a power cable, a standard mounting bracket, a warranty card and a comprehensive handbook. An external loudspeaker and flush mount bracket are also available as optional extras.

The GX1200E is backed by Standard Horizon’s three-year waterproof guarantee, and retails at just £119.95 including VAT.
